FAQ
![]() GENERAL QUESTIONS Where can I find the rules for everything? The general RULES are there but for rules like app rules, reserve rules, and AC rules, you can find on the pages for each. IC rules the characters would be expected to follow are on the LEGION BASICS page. Does this game have player or character caps? The Legion has a player cap of 45 players and a character cap of 4 characters per player. The only exception to the character caps are when people permatemp Legionnaire npcs or villain npcs through the NPC system but that's because those characters will mostly be used for plot and helping characters get involved. If the player cap has been met, the game has a wait queue for new players apping into the game. Please see the APP PAGE for more details. Does this game have cast caps? Each cast has a cap of 8 characters. Is this a prose or an actionspam game? This is a prose game but there is network that allows text, audio, and video posts. While we would prefer the network not used for actionspam opens, player may have network conversations switch to action if that's easier for them than starting a separate log. What is the general pace of the game? The day ratio is 2:1 (2 OOC days = 1 IC day). We're also big fans of backtagging and "bendytime" where players handwave different things happened at different times. (Such as players posting two plots on the same day and handwaving that there was some time between them). How is character death handled in this game? When a character dies, they've kicked the bucket, shuffled off this mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. They are an ex-Legionnaire. Revival from death in this game will be very limited and require very special circumstances. If a character dies they'll get a hero's burial on the hero funeral planet, Shanghalla, with a massive stone statue the size of a building. They'll also get a gold statue in the Legion's memorial hall. And that's that. Can a character be apped post-death? Under some limited circumstances, characters can be apped post-death (such as if their soul is stored in a certain location or they dissipated into some form that can be pulled back together.) That said, if a character dies in a very conventional way, such as by injury, they would have to be pulled into the game while still alive. If they were injured, it is the player's choice whether the force that brings characters to the game, the Time Trapper, heals them or not. If not, the Medbay is very advanced. What happens if my character kills someone? If they're caught, they'll possibly be booted from the Legion (and possibly arrested if it was murder). The only possible exception is self-defense and defense of others in a circumstance where it's absolutely impossible to take down a threat with nonfatal force. The Legion has very strict rules on that sort of thing and part of the essence of the game will characters adjusting to working within the limits of a very superheroic ideology since it serves their own agendas of saving all of existence and getting home (or to a dimension of their choosing). If a character kills someone it's recommended that you have a plan for how they can 1) not get caught, 2) make a successful self defense/defense of others case, or 3) be booted from the team and still be involved in the game as an independent party. Otherwise, we recommend that players app characters that can work within those rules (even if maybe they dislike them). What kinds of plots will be run at this game? As far as player plots go, that's up to you! With mod plots, there will be a lot of action/adventure plots and a little bit of diplomacy and exploration. Since superhero comics are very flexible genre-wise, plot genres will range from superhero, to straight sci fi, to even occasional fantasy and horror. For the sci fi stuff, the Legion of Superheroes is very much like sci fi shows like Star Trek or Doctor Who in tone and themes. There also will occasionally be events, but this will be less frequent. How old do players have to be to play here? Players must be 16+. Does time pass back home for the characters? For the most part it won't and this is something the scientists are aware of from scanning the characters and their tie to the Legion's universe. The characters would be told this during the waking-up process. What happens to hiatused characters? They're mostly just handwaved as hanging around Legion World or traveling planetside somewhere on leave. Or they can be handwaved as off on some minor/training mission. What happens to dropped characters? They simply get yanked back home. Can I canon update a character? Yes, just please contact the mods. The canon update will be handled as the character blipping home, experiencing the new canon events, and blipping back to the exact moment they left. What is the comm's policy on NC-17 material? This game is generally meant to be more about plotty action than smut so we prefer that all smut be behind cuts and warnings. It's also a bannable offense to write smut with someone under 18. Alternately, if a minor player knowingly and purposefully lies about their age to get an older player to write NC-17 material with them they will get banned. Will this game have a periodic gamewide hmd? This game will have an optional HMD once per AC period. If players do not participate in the optional HMD we ask that they still provide some form of receiving crit such as a private HMD. Since we will not dictate that they allow anon communication for this, the mods are also willing to offer services in passing along anon crit via the MOD CONTACT/HMD post. How do players have to handle spoilers? If it's within one month of the release of the spoilers, we ask that any major spoilers be cut and warned for if a player puts them in a post. If it comes up during a thread, we ask that players make sure to check with the other players involved to see if it's okay to mention the spoilers. After the month has passed, players won't have to cut or provide any warnings for things. ![]() ACTIVITY What is this game's AC policy? You can find that on the AC POLICY page. You can find most important AC questions answered there. How long is each AC period? Each AC period is two months long. The way it will work is there will be a "check-in" after the first month that doesn't require activity proofs to be posted. Then at the end of the second month, people will have to post their AC proofs. What happens if I fail AC? If you have extenuating circumstances during the AC period, or something preplanned like a vacation, you are allowed to skip 1 AC per rolling year. If you don't have extenuating circumstances or already used an AC skip, there is an AC Warning system in place. However, if a player receives a Warning and fails to make the required activity the following AC period, they can expect the following: You'll be asked to drop the character(s) you failed with (if you failed with one, or a few, but not others). If you failed your only character or all characters, you'll be booted from the game. If you were forced to drop a character or characters but still remain in the game with at least one character, you'll be able to start apping or reapping characters again in 1 months' time. If you failed AC with all/your only character(s) and must be dropped from the game, you can reapp again in 1 months' time as long as you communicate with the mods during the Activity Check. If you know you failed AC, please either still post your activity to the AC or communicate privately with the mods during the Activity Check. As long as there is contact with the mods while the Activity Check is still ongoing, we will consider this a failed AC but not consider this idling out. While you'll be dropped from the game, the time you'll have to wait to reapp will be only 1 month. The mods will give players a whole week to post for AC and will announce it both on the mod plurk and the OOC comms so if players miss AC, we will not post AC reminders or allow late posting to it. The exact date and time the AC period ends will be posted and if you forget to post your activity before that time comes, that's that. What happens if I idle out without using the drop post and without contacting the mods during Activity Check? You'll be booted from the game and the time you'll have to wait to reapp will be longer. You'll be able to app back again in 2 months' time. ![]() SETTING How old does my character have to be to be allowed in the Legion? The Galactic Age of Adulthood, when characters are considered adults, is 14. If a character is under fourteen, you may have to contact the mods to see what can be done. Only young characters capable of fighting or dealing with danger (like Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender or Dipper and Mabel Pines) will be allowed to be Legionnaires and a lot would be done to give them extra protection/shield them from the worst of the danger. Does that mean minor characters that are 14+ are old enough in that universe to be sexually involved with adults? No, it does not. The age of adulthood only refers to when character's can vote, live independently, enlist in the Legion and Science Police, etc etc. Actual consent laws vary by planet based on how that particular species ages, but Earth and many UP planets consider the age of sexual consent to be 17 and the law is only forgiving of age differences if both parties are not far apart in age (ie within 2 years of each other). The law on Legion World follows that policy, unless the character's native planet has a more stringent law, in which case that individual's world's law is in play for them specifically. In short, don't be gross about this. Please. Unfortunately, people sometimes are, hence why we're even putting this question on the FAQ. Just in case. Can I app a character that's not human? Totally! And they can keep their natural appearance, too. This is a game that's very friendly to nonhuman characters, whether they're aliens, vampires, robots, or mutant turtles. They'll be entering into a very diverse galaxy full of a lot of species mingling. Just keep in mind they have to adhere to the policies in the PLAYABLE CHARACTERS/POWER SELECTION policy. What if my character has a special diet? Whether it's blood or some weird form of energy, something can be synthesized for them. What can my character bring from home? Generally, they can have anything they would have on their person at the canon point they're taken from, even weapons. That said, if they have an item that's particularly powerful or setting breaky please let the mods know. If it's some kind of powerful weapon that grants superpowers or power source you want the character to keep (like a Green Lantern ring), it has to be fitted into the 1, 2, 3 power rule, or if it needs to be taken away to avoid breaking the game, the UP might confiscate it (because they're dicks). In the case of the latter, the mods would not be averse to plots involving getting stolen things back right before endgame, as the Legion themselves would be against taking these items from newcomers. Weaker weapons, like for example a blaster or a lightsaber would not have to be fit into the powers rules and characters would be given them after the situation was explained to them in Medbay. How does language work in the setting? Is there a language barrier? All PCs will receive telepathic earplugs, patches, or equivalent devices when they arrive in the Legion's universe. These allow the characters to understand the galactic common language, Interlac, as well as other languages (like Proverso, the Common Tongue in the Second Galaxy). The way the earplugs work is by telepathically planting the language into their heads, as if by magic, so that they know it as if they are a native speaker. This also works for written communication. For any concepts they don't have equivalents to (like certain technologies) they will know what they're called but may need to have what they are explained to them. They will still be able to speak and read in their native languages and if characters wish to learn Interlac or other languages of the UP so they don't need the earplugs they can take them out so they can study. Since the earplugs are technological in nature, that does mean they can be taken out of commission by things that zap tech and make it fail, so that's something that can potentially happen in plots. What's this about the flight rings being tracked? This is a standard capability of the Legion flight rings. They are often used to track missing or injured Legionnaires. That said, a character can stop being tracked by flight ring by simply taking it off. What's this about parts of Legion World being designed to the characters' preferences? After characters wake up on Legion World, they will be asked how they would like a section of Legion World designed for them so they can feel more at ease, and a little biome will be created in the habitat area of the ship. These biomes are usually several square miles and can be designed with natural flora and fauna or even cityscapes. Characters can stay in a shelter in this biome if that's where they'd be comfortable sleeping or they can sleep in their own quarters and just visit their biomes when they want. You can describe your character's biome on their PERMISSIONS POST. If my character doesn't live in a shelter in their biome where would they sleep? They'd have their own sleeping quarters in the Crew Quarters. What if I want to change my character's biome later? Simply contact the mods and add the new description to your character's permission post by editing it in or adding it as a new comment. My character is a young character and would still be in school back home. Do they have to go to school? All non-native Legionnaires will have to go to mandatory lessons so they can be proper Legionnaires, such as science/technology class, social studies, and combat training. That said, normal general education is not mandatory unless a character is under 14. Free optional general education or specialized education would be offered if a character wanted it, though. For instance, if a character wanted to go to the UP's equivalent of college they would be allowed to do so for free. Even characters that are doctors could receive free training in 31st century medicine. Can my character's canon pet come in with them? Yes, as long as the pet is non-sentient and belongs to the character and not someone else. They need not have been with the character at the time they were abducted and can have been abducted separately. Can my character bring in another character from their universe that is some kind of intelligent animal companion/parasite/talking animal guide? Or do these need to be apped as separate characters? This will be handled on a case by case basis, depending on how sentient the other character is and how difficult it would be for the character to be played without them. For instance, Toothless from HTTYD could be included in an app with Hiccup rather than apped separately. So could Jaime Reyes' scarab or Tikki and Plagg from Miraculous Ladybug. However, some Disney animal companions can stand on their own feet as a character, like Mushu from Mulan. Can my character gain a pet from the game's universe and bring it back to Legion World? Yes, as long as it isn't some kind of dangerous or parasitic entity. They'd have to let it be checked out by Medbay or the science labs first, though. Brainiac 5, for instance, used to have a pet monkey. Will my character's needs be provided by the Legion? Yes, they'll get free housing on Legion World, financial assistance on housing planetside on any UP planet of their choosing if they like, free food in the mess hall, free educational resources, free medical care in the Medbay, as well as a stipend for uniforms and plain clothes. They'll also get a small salary alongside all that and they can use it however they please. If the characters all have to pick out costumes how will people know what my character looks like? Other than just describing it in posts, if you want to include a permanent description or drawing of your character somewhere, you can post it in your character journal or post it as a reply to your permissions post. Is there a main bad guy to the setting? Yes! A cosmic being known as Chronoblivion has attached Itself to the Legion's universe and has sent Its heralds into the universe to weaken its defenses. If It successfully devours the Legion's universe, It will become powerful enough to consume all of existence. Alongside this massive apocalyptic threat, there are also other villains and unsavory parties plotting things behind the scenes, many of them influenced by Chronoblivion and Its heralds, and the characters will gradually be able to fight against them. However, barring one of the Legionnaires who's up to...something, the Legion themselves genuinely want to help the characters and genuinely need help to have time to do it, though, so the people immediately around the PCs will actually be helpful. (Though it'd be perfectly understandable if the PCs are slow to trust them). What's the technology like in the game? Please see the UNIVERSE INFRASTRUCTURE page for info on the general technology available, and the LEGION BASICS page for the technology the Legionnaires carry around. How fast is space travel in this game? Space travel by conventional FTL engines can take months or years, but travel by the threshold gates is nearly instantaneous. What religions are prevalent in this universe? There are millions of them but two religions of interest are the worship of the tyrant Darkseid by the Catastrophists who want to bring about the end of the world, and a secular belief system of "The Spirit of the Last Son" where people worship the ideals of Superman. Can my character have additional job alongside being a Legionnaire? As Legionnaires, characters can perform certain duties and support roles around Legion World, like working in engineering, logistics, operating the threshold gates, etc. Medical practitioners and healers, for instance, are always welcome in the Medbay, even if it may be required that they receive extra training in 31st century medicine/xenobiology. As for jobs off Legion World, the Legion prefers that Legionnaires not split their attention between being a Legionnaire and having a job, but they do allow some members to be reserve members if they really want to focus their priorities elsewhere. Can my character have another role in the universe instead of being a Legionnaire? Yes, they won't be forced to be Legionnaires. They can join the Science Police, become an independent superhero, become a mercenary, etc. However, it's not recommended that you do this unless you have solid plans on how the character can still interact with the main plot. Can my character leave Legion World? As long as they're not actively on duty (such as monitor duty) or being called on for a mission they can leave Legion World and explore the United Planets at any time. You'd just have to handwave that they told people where they were going. If I decide to give my character a new superhero name, can I change it later? Yes! The permissions page entries have the characters' superhero names on them. If you want to change your character's superhero name, you can edit your character's permissions entry to do so at any time. It says the game's npcs provide lessons in things like science and combat; can my character also provide training to other characters? Yes! While all players can assume that the Legionnaires are showing their characters the ropes with regular lessons, training sessions, and team practices, the Legion would encourage any extra training or education characters can offer each other. So you can have your characters provide additional lessons and run team practices with each other to your heart's content. ![]() POWERS Where can I find the powers policy at the game? You can find it on the PLAYABLE CHARACTERS/POWER SELECTION page. Can my character keep their powers? Yes, but they must be made to fit the 1, 2, 3 rule. Do nonpowered characters receive powers? Yes, nonpowered characters receive powers in this game. Please see the policy before putting in your app so you can figure out what powers you want your character to have. Does my character have to have powers? Some character can go without receiving powers but only if they have the capacity to fight without them in some way, such as if they're an extremely talented fighter like Batman or Robin. On your app there is a section for nonpowered abilities. You would have to explain there what skills they can use to get by without powers. I think I picked a set of powers for my character that doesn't suit them. Can I change their powers? Yes, please contact the mods to work out what they can be changed to. Once they're changed, please comment to your character's post in the permissions post with an additional comment noting what they've been changed to. This will be played out as if they briefly vorped home for a few seconds and then vorped back to the game universe with different powers. ![]() Feel free to ask more questions in the comments. Please give the mods at least 4 days to respond. |
