GAME MECHANICS

GAME MECHANICS

THE COMMUNITIES

» [community profile] legionworld - Legion World Logs

The Legion World comm is for any prose logs that take place on Legion World, the main habitat area of the game. Any normal day-to-day interactions or plot events that take place on the ship go in this comm. The game is intended to be a prose-heavy game so all logs in this comm should be prose.

» [community profile] legionmissions - Mission and Off-World Logs

The Legion Missions comm is for any plots that take place off Legion World or any RPs that take place elsewhere in the United Planets. They do not have to strictly be missions, this can also be used for RPs where characters take a day off to explore other UP planets or have some downtime. This is also a prose comm.

» [community profile] thelegion - Network Comm

This is the network comm for the game. There are three methods of communication that can occur here.

Omnicoms: can be used for text, audio, and video communication. The usual bracketspam is fine for those. When doing a network post just note in the subject whether the format is Video, Text, or Audio.

The omnicoms can also transmit things like tech schematics and be used to tap into TV broadcasts so the mods/players will sometimes have the opportunity to do posts that are TV broadcasts.

Post-locking: Posts can be locked to certain individuals and they can be made invisible even to the native Legionnaires. That said, Brainiac 5 is the one that created the omnicoms and that means he may potentially snoop in on people's private communications for his own (plotty) purposes. The mods will ask the players involved if this is okay. The other native Legionnaires are not aware he's doing this and would freak if they found out.

Encryptions: There are two types of encryptions. There is a general encryption the team can use to make their omnicoms have extra privacy, locked away even from security on Legion World. Characters with a particular gift for hacking can also potentially encrypt their communications to be invisible to even Brainiac 5, creator of the network.

Anon: Anon messages are not an option in the game's network.

PLOTTING

MOD PLOTS

The Mods will typically run 1-2 Over-arching Mod Plots a month, though some months may have breaks after a large plot. These plots will usually be opt-in and will split up the participating players into groups to accomplish certain goals. As it says in the AC Policy the mods will try to give all players something to do but any special parts or puzzles that come up will be given to new and active players, who will be put in a pool for RNG selection. If a player's character is selected for one of these parts, that player is ineligible to be rolled for similar parts in the immediate future. (Through the course of the game we'd like to give a wide variety of players these special roles).

PLAYER PLOTS

This game is friendly to player plots. Players have the option of asking the mods for assistance incorporating major plot elements of the game into their plots if they like. Generally, we'll allow these to be run at any time though we may occasionally ask players to space them out so the playerbase isn't torn between a lot of plots at once.

Players can also run private player plots/missions for a small group, not open to the whole game. These still need to be proposed to and approved by the mods.

FLASH PLOTS

Flashplots are short adventures run by one of the plot mods, usually designed for one person but that can be expanded to cover a small group. They are, by design, very short, usually between 10 and 20 posts. They are never world shaking or planetwide crises, but they're things like "Rescuing people from an apartment fire", "stopping a bank robbery", and "keeping that out of control bus of sick orphans from speeding into the atomic testing area".

Think of them as the first few pages of a comic book where the hero swoops in and handles some little crime before the real plot stops. He spots the trouble, swings into action, resolves it, and is on his way to meet with someone in his secret identity before page 5.

Flashplot signups happen periodically as the plot mod running them has openings to do new ones. You can find the most recent signup on the flashplot signups tag.

PERIODIC EVENTS

There will be a few ongoing periodic events through the game. As it says in the AC policy, the mods will ask for volunteers for these and active players that volunteer will be put into an RNG pool.

LEGIONNAIRE LEGACIES

One of the most powerful media conglomerates in the United Planets successfully stole one of Brainiac 5's Interdimensional Anywhere Machines, devices that can be used to see into alternate dimensions, and is now using it for scoops they can use in the next news cycle.

This means the press will periodically run profiles and other news stories on the newcomer Legionnaires that may perhaps sensationalize their personal histories, misrepresent them, or violate their privacy and they can use footage from their pasts to do it. Periodically the mods will ask for volunteers so they or the players themselves can write these profiles and news reports.

The news agencies behind this can view anything from a character's past and view any of their present day activity as long as it takes place anywhere outside of the confines of Legion World.

DIPLOMATIC MEETINGS

Periodically, the mods may run small plots where a handful of Legionnaires must speak with peoples in the Second Galaxy and have to resolve diplomatic conflicts. These plots will usually involve little action and mostly be comprised of character interaction.

HIATUSES AND DROPS

The way hiatuses are handled ICly are that the character is simply on leave of some kind or off on a random mission somewhere. People can just handwave their character was hanging around Legion World or off the ship on a planet somewhere.

When a character drops they're simply yanked back home the moment they left.

POWER CHANGES

Players are allowed to change their character's powers if their current power set is not working as planned. The player must contact the mods via the mod contact to propose a new power set. Once it has been approved, they can have their character briefly blip away for a few seconds (they will not have any perception of where they were sent to), then blip back to the game universe seconds later, with a new power-set.

CANON UPDATES

Generally, it will be assumed (due to readings by scientists) that time doesn't pass back in the characters' home universe while they're in the Legion's universe. If you want to canon update, they simply go home, some time passes, and then they get yanked back to the Legion's universe. Please contact the mods if you want to canon update.

LANGUAGE TRANSLATION

All PCs will receive telepathic earplugs, patches, or equivalent devices when they arrive in the Legion's universe. These allow the characters to understand the galactic common language, Interlac, as well as other languages (like Proverso, the Common Tongue in the Second Galaxy). The way the earplugs work is by telepathically planting the language into their heads, as if by magic, so that they know it as if they are a native speaker. This also works for written communication. For any concepts they don't have equivalents to (like certain technologies) they will know what they're called but may need to have what they are explained to them.

They will still be able to speak and read in their native languages and if characters wish to learn Interlac or other languages of the UP so they don't need the earplugs they can take them out so they can study.

Since the earplugs are technological in nature, that does mean they can be taken out of commission by things that zap tech and make it fail, so that's something that can potentially happen in plots.
