APP
CURRENT PLAYER RESERVES: PERMANENTLY CLOSED CURRENT PLAYER APPS: PERMANENTLY CLOSED NEW PLAYER APPS: PERMANENTLY CLOSED ENDGAME INFO The Legion was always meant to be a short-run game of 1-2 years, and it is now approaching endgame. Endgame metaplot plots will start in December 2017 and the final endgame itself will start in January 2018. Since there will be a playable sandbox after endgame, and since some players enjoy very short-run games, apps will remain open until mid-December. However, new players need to be forewarned that the mod metaplot and the fight against Chronoblivion will finish and not be replaced by a new metaplot. For more information on endgame and the post-game sandbox, please read this before apping. NEW PLAYER APPS The Legion has a player cap of 45 and new player apps are handled differently when the cap has been filled vs. not yet filled. If the player cap has not been met: New players can simply app in and will receive an answer back within 7 days. If the game's player cap has been met: The mods will respond to the player, letting them know that their app has been queued. All new player apps will be added to a wait queue list, so the players can see how many people are in front of them. When a player slot becomes available from a drop, the mods will contact the next player in the queue and ask if they are still interested in joining the game. If the player responds yes, then their app will be processed. If they respond no, the mods will move onto the next app until all available player slots are filled. Please note: New players do not have the option of reserving a character. However, if a new player's app is in the wait queue, their app counts as a reservation. As long as a character is listed in the wait queue due to an app, current players, and any other new players that come along, cannot reserve or app that character. Regarding cast caps: Cast caps are no longer in place, due to endgame. CURRENT PLAYER APPS The wait queue is only for new players, and will only be used if the game's player cap has been met. That means that current players may app for a new character at any time, and will receive a response back within 7 days. If a character has not yet been reserved, and is not in the new player queue, you can RESERVE them. This is available only to current players. SITUATIONAL APP CLOSURES Both new player and current player apps may close on occasion due to RL holidays, mods going on vacation, and other mitigating circumstances. They may also be closed sometimes during particularly complicated gamewide plots that would create difficulties for people introing characters. These closures will usually be temporary. ![]() APP RULES AND LIMITS GENERAL RULES ✦ Before Apping, please visit the PLAYABLE CHARACTERS/POWER SELECTION page. ✦ You may only app 1 character at a time. ✦ You must wait 2 weeks between apps. ✦ If you only have one character and you're swapping them out for another, please note on your app and your drop post that you're swapping out so we don't think you're giving up your player slot. ✦ If you app for multiple characters from the same canon they must not have a lot of direct involvement (ie they can't be close siblings or SOs or anything like that). ✦ All apps will remain screened until accepted. Accepted apps will be unscreened. Rejected apps will remain screened. If you have personal reasons for wanting an accepted app to stay screened (such as concerns about your contact info getting in the hands of someone dangerous) you may request for the app to stay screened. ✦ For current players, if a character is not reserved or in the new player wait queue, apps are judged for that character as first come, first served. ✦ Do not link to your application. Please post it as comments, it's fine if there are multiple ones. ✦ We don't care if you reuse old apps you've written yourself but if we catch you plagiarizing an app from someone else, you'll be permanently pre-banned from the game. We'll also ban you if we miss it while approving and find out later, because come on. PLAYER CAP Overall Player Cap: 45 players Characters Allowed Per Player: 4 Because the game is so plot-heavy and involves all the characters working together as a team, The Legion has a player cap to keep things manageable. CANON AND CAST CAPS Versions of each character allowed: 2 We allow two versions of the same character in game, such as an AU and the canon version, or two version from two different incarnations of a canon (ex: comic Barry Allen and TV show Barry Allen). Cast Cap: Due to endgame, there are no cast caps in place any longer. LEGIONNAIRES AND CAPS We are allowing players to help with dedicated npcing of the Legionnaire characters (which are mostly based on the post-Zero Hour Legion). The 4 characters per person character cap does not apply to npc Legionnaires and native Legionnaires are exempt from cast caps. That said, we do not recommend this unless you're willing to use your Legionnaire to help get the PCs involved. While we will allow players to dibs an npc Legionnaire to play, they do have to help with the running of the game and helping PCs get involved in plots (which is IC for the Legionnaires to do anyway). Non-native Legionnaires (such as from Threeboot, the animated show, etc) will be treated as guests to the universe and fall under the usual cast and character caps, counted as DC Comics/animation casts. Please contact the mods if you want to permatemp an npc Legionnaire, as this will not require an app and instead will involve instructions on how to use the Legionnaires to help get the PCs involved and a discussion on the expectations the mods will have of the character. ![]() APP SUBJECT LINE In the subject of your app comment, please put "NEW PLAYER APP" or "CURRENT PLAYER APP" before the character's name and canon. Ex: NEW PLAYER APP | Bugs Bunny | Space Jam APPLICATION Player Name: Plurk Handle: (If you have one. Note: If you have privacy concerns, you may opt out of this or request that the app remain screened) Player Status: New Player or Current Player Other characters: If you're a current player: any other characters you play here? Character Name: Fandom: Character Journal: OU, AU, or OC? Original universe, alternate universe, or original character? If canon, canon point: PB: (Played - By. PBs are optional, not required, for instance if you play an OC, your character doesn't have visual media, what visual media they have has ugly art, etc.). Superhero Name: Your character picks this when they swear in to become a Legionnaire. Setting Background: If apping an AU or OC from a made up world or a canon world deeply changed by AU events, please give us some background on the setting here. Leave blank for OU characters. (Please keep this under 1000 words.) History: Links are preferred, however if you're apping an OC or AU we do want a thorough history. In the case of an AU please note specific points the AU diverges from canon. If the character is an AU in the game universe, feel free to ask the mods for help developing this section. (Please keep this under 1000 words.) Personality: What is the character's personality like? Please take care to talk about both their thoughts and motivations and their outward actions. For AUs, please note how their development diverges from canon. (Please keep this under 1000 words.) Canon Powers: If they have superpowers in canon please list them here just so we have them somewhere. Game powers: What powers would you like them to have for the game? Please see the PLAYABLE CHARACTERS/POWER SELECTION page for an idea on what will be accepted. Please specify how the requested powers fit the 1, 2, 3 rules. If you'd like to opt out of powers, note it here. Abilities: Please list any abilities independent of any meta-powers here. Hacking, martial arts, diplomacy skills, etc. If opting out of powers, please explain the abilities that would allow the character to keep up with powered individuals in the setting. Setting: How do you expect your character to respond to the setting? What do you hope to do with your character long-term? If your character is not typically 'heroic', how do you intend to go about integrating them with a super hero team? Can your character adhere to the rules on limited killing that are required to to stay on the team? SAMPLES Prose Sample: 200 word minimum. You may use a test drive thread, use the following prompt, or make up your own. Links to RP samples at other games are not accepted, you must either use a Test Drive thread or write up a new prompt, but you may use samples at other games to supplement your samples. If your character is a quiet character, introspection or inner monologue is fine. Your character is with the team at a fancy diplomatic party and a UP dignitary (a Coluan, naturally, because man, the entire planet of Colu seems to be chock full of arrogant dicks) has called into question the character's ability to be a Legionnaire and whether or not they, some weirdo interdimensional stranger, have the personal character to help protect the United Planets. How do they respond? Network Sample: 200 word minimum. You may use the following prompt, or make up your own. Links to RP samples at other games are not accepted, you must write up a new prompt, but you may use samples at other games to supplement your samples. Since the test drives rarely use network format, you cannot use a test drive thread for the network sample, only the prose sample. If your character is a quiet character, introspection or inner monologue is fine. Welcome to the Legion, rookie. As a way of helping your character cope with their circumstances and have an optimistic outlook towards the future, the existing Legionnaires want them to record a message to their future self with their thoughts on their current situation, what they hope to accomplish in their time with the Legion, and the first thing they want to do when they get sent safely home or to the dimension of their choice. Additional info: Any additional info you think it's important to include. You can use this space to ask the mods if certain weapons, gear, belongings, or animal companions can be brought into the game with the character. Here is the app all formatted and ready to go: ![]() EXPECTED RESPONSE TIME ✦ For current player apps, or new player apps that are submitted before the player cap is filled, app review may take up to 1 week. Please do not contact the mods about your app unless 1 week has passed. ✦ For new player apps that are submitted after the player cap is filled, we cannot give estimates on how long it will take to get into the game, as this depends on any natural drops that happen. However, when a player slot opens, we will attempt to process the next new player app in the queue within 1 week of the drop that opened the player slot. ✦ For new players, we consider a new player slot reserved by an app until the entire review process is over, so if we ask for revisions, your slot is still reserved until the mods make their final judgement of the app. However, if we ask for revisions, you will have 2 days to respond. After that, you'll forfeit the player slot reserved by your app and we'll move on to the next app. |
Jesse McCree | Overwatch
Player Name: Kat
Plurk Handle: PMs are fine!
Other characters: n/a
Character Name: Jesse McCree
Fandom: Overwatch
Character Journal:
OU, AU, or OC? OU
If canon, canon point: Post "Train-Hopper" comic.
PB: n/a (but have some reference art)
Superhero Name: Deadeye
History: [playoverwatch.com profile] and [wiki]. Briefly; Jesse McCree spent much of his youth in the Deadlock gang trafficking weapons in the American south-west. Deadlock was busted by Overwatch in a sting operation and Jesse was apprehended. He was given a choice to either rot in jail for the rest of his life, or join Overwatch's covert ops Blackwatch. He chose the latter, and as he grew within it so did his own moral compass and a strong sense of justice.
Additional OC and AU Background: n/a
Personality: Gregarious, cocksure and good at his job; Jesse McCree is exactly what you would imagine in a bounty hunting gunslinging cowboy... from the not so distant future and who happens to have a bionic arm. He speaks in an affable southern drawl and with a cigar between his teeth, walks fully aware his belt buckle is engraved with the letters B-A-M-F, and that his boot spurs jingle jangle every step. He knows who is he is and he's not shy or shameful about it in any way. He takes many things in life with a wide easy-going stride and has a western sense of courtesy, regardless if he's fighting by your side or the one aiming a bullet to your head. It's nothing personal, it's only justice at work.
Jesse McCree, walking cowboy trope that he may be (bless his heart), is much more insightful than he lets on. When stowing away on a hypertrain he recognized a heist in progress, right down to the technique of the insertion and was able to quickly determine who was behind it all... and that any inaction on his part would lead to the deaths of innocents. He sprung into action and let his gun do the talking when compromise wasn't able to be met, while all begging the pardon of an elderly woman for the ruckus. He didn't ask for any rewards or thanks, only for the train staff to "fudge their arrival time" so he could get a head start on escaping law-enforcement that had already made a scapegoat out of him.
He's a man who strongly adheres to his independence and is strongly guided by his own principals, even if in his youth they were perhaps meandering and misplaced in a weapons trafficking gang in the American south-west. His observant nature, resourcefulness and expert marksmanship served him well in the Deadlock gang for many years until he (along with the rest of Deadlock) was busted in a Overwatch sting operation. Despite his capture McCree showed too much promise and potential to simply let it all go to waste. He didn't have to be a criminal. He could be something much more. He could be a hero. This is what was proposed to him, lest he spend the rest of his life rotting behind bars. While initially cynical, McCree agreed and became a valued member of Blackwatch, Overwatch's covert ops division.
Soon enough he came to believe that he could make amends for his past sins by righting the injustices of the world. Placed under the supervision of Gabriel Reyes, McCree learned tricks and techniques and came to appreciate the flexibility afforded to the clandestine Blackwatch. He was already good at getting his hands dirty, only now he was doing it for a good reason. Reyes became something of a mentor figure to a young McCree, but as Reyes's relationship with Overwatch soured over the years, as did McCree's outlook on the organization as a whole. Eventually this (among other complicating factors) helped form an inconsolable rift between McCree and perhaps the only good thing going for him in his life. McCree eventually wanted no part of it and set off alone, likely defected from Blackwatch given the circumstances of his joining. The only thing he had left was that independence.
It is a virtue as much as it is a vice for him, and while he continues to fight for the sake of justice and absolving his past sins he consequently continues to be on the wrong side of the law. He knows he can handle it, even if he obviously still carries weight on his shoulders or old tensions. This can also manifest as bravado and edge into over-confidence, feeling like he might have to do some things alone. McCree also has more of a temper than he lets on, a deep sort of underlying menace binding him to his roots. He's cognizant he is, always has been, and probably will always only be, good at putting bullets into people.
McCree doesn't have to answer for anyone anymore except for himself and he prefers it that way. It's suggested he doesn't adhere to much of a schedule, coming and going where his vigilantism may take him. This might make him seem unreliable or difficult to take seriously when he's not obligated to something. When it is a cause he feels is just however, McCree is plenty capable of working with others when needed, and a good team player. He's an indispensable ally to have and will give his life to a good cause. He does fight for the sake of good and believes he can still bring justice to the world... just on his own terms.
Canon Powers: McCree is a baseline human! He does however have at least two things of note:
♠ He is augmented with a prosthetic right arm. This is capable of at least indenting the metal hull of a speeding train and is presumably very durable.
♠ His ultimate ability, the "Deadeye" lets him line up an instant kill shot (or heavily damaging shot) with anyone within his line of sight and when permitted the time to do so. He glows. A tumbleweed rolls out of nowhere. When he fires he doesn't miss. I'm willing to call it some kind of super power. (Or possibly another undisclosed/unconfirmed prosthetic in his eye.)
Game powers: I'd like to translate his canon powers into two slightly badass super powers:
♠ Power arm (bionic arm with enhanced strength, durability and for fun let's throw on a rocket punch and cigar lighter built into his finger tips.)
♠ Enhanced Vision (infra-red--he'll have to get used to controlling it.)
Abilities:
♠ Sharpshooting: McCree has impeccable aim and knows his way around firearms. He favors revolvers.
♠ Agile and Nimble: he may not be the fastest sprinter (his footsteps are in fact described as "heavy" and audible) but he can roll and dodge out harm's way with surprising ease.
♠ Sharp mind: he's very perceptive, observant, and tactically minded. Not a bad man to take into a briefing room and ask for second opinions.
♠ Inferred he's familiar enough with electronics/mechanics such that he can manage his own arm when it needs repair. (He mentions riding a "hover horse" and there is a high population of hovering motorcycles on Route 66--the level associated with McCree.)
♠ Inferred he knows Spanish, probably passingly familiar with a few other Earth languages.
Setting: Overwatch takes place 60 years in the future where self-aware computers and AI and flying cars are actually a reality. Space travel is still limited to Earth and Moon, though by Overwatch's time the moon itself has been colonized (by hyper-intelligent gorillas, but I digress...). McCree himself might entirely out of place in the universe, and news reports even refer to him as a man with "anachronistic fashion sense" but he'll take all the space-traveling stuff in stride. He has a bionic arm, has worked with other super-hero equivalents and he's not unused to fanciful technology. He might get a little homesick for good ol' terra firma after a while but he is nothing if not adaptable to whatever cards he's dealt with.
He'll be a little conflicted about joining the Legion but he'll make due with it and seek to continue to dole out justice in his own way. He likes helping people and probably will cater to missions involving underdogs. Just don't expect him to be terribly compliant if meetings, schedules, rules, red tape, bureaucracy, politics or anything like that is involved. (Which means I totally want to stick him in situations like that from time to time.)
SAMPLES
Prose Sample: Your character is with the team at a fancy diplomatic party and a UP dignitary (Coluan, naturally, because man, that whole planet seems to be chock fill of arrogant dicks) has called into question the character's ability to be a Legionnaire and whether or not they, some weirdo interdimensional stranger, have the personal character to help protect the United Planets. How do they respond?
McCree had half a mind to not respond at all. Accusations like that were familiar. Discreetly accommodating a kid with a criminal background into an organization like Overwatch wouldn't change the fact a kid with a criminal background wasn't one to trust to easily. That similar sentiment wouldn't change out here in space. The Coluan's frankness was met with lazy silence while McCree casually picked at his teeth with a toothpick. He made a blatant display of disregard, smacking his lips and swirling his tongue over his teeth. Cigars weren't allowed in the party, also familiar (and frustrating). He'd quit the habit if he wasn't convinced something else was going to kill him first. Even the way his suit felt one button too snug around his chest or how he kept fiddling with the cuffs at his wrists like they were too tight or too loose felt familiar. He wished it all didn't feel so familiar. But here he is; another fancy diplomatic party, another bigheaded fool running his mouth and giving an opinion he was never asked for.
McCree tips his hat (the one familiarly he'd take when given, the one that looks completely out of place with the rest of his dress suit) such that it darkens much of his features. "Maybe I don't." The cowboy finally answers, letting the toothpick settle on one side of his mouth. It gives every word a tight grit. He's not about to repeat himself. "That ain't for you to decide."
Let everyone think what they wanted.
Network Sample: Welcome to the Legion, rookie.
[Right. He finds this maybe a little corny but he can roll with it. McCree scratches at his beard, stalling, trying to ignore that persistent and unsettling familiarity that both excites and exhausts him.]
Yeah, it's what you think it is, this Legion business. History repeating and all that. Funny how that works.
You know, Overwatch made the world seem like such a small place sometimes. I can't even wrap my head proper around the scale of it out here... nor am I even going to try. [Really, the direness of the situation makes Overwatch's problems look like small potatoes. McCree's not sure how to feel about it, but, as he said he's not going to think about it too hard.] Doesn't change things though.
[He's mostly feeding the recording what he expects existing Legionnaires to want to hear--his "future self" is a nebulous fellow of indeterminate existence, isn't he? McCree's voice isn't without hints of mirth, however. He can have fun with this and gives himself a finger gun and a wink. The world--and universe--still needs heroes.]
Don't forget about what really matters. Justice is all you're gonna' have out there, partner.
Additional info: have some extra samples on the house: [1] [2] [3]
If this is your first character being apped to the game, did you reserve first? first time rodeo, reserve is right over yonder
MOD QUESTION
However, if you'd like to rely more heavily on McCree's marksmanship instead, the two listed powers are fine, and he'd be allowed to use his guns in the game as long as he was amenable to having them modified with stun rounds or with ammo that provided other nonlethal effects.
If you're fine with his current two powers, let us know in your response to this comment and we'll approve his app. Or let us know if you'd like to add a power and the mods will review it.
As it stands, the app is very solid, we just wanted to let you know you were allowed to add another power to what's provided.
no subject
McCree's a gunslinger so he relies heavily on his marksmanship. He'd be okay using nonlethal rounds or modifications to his gun, keeping it at two powers.
